Lawrence Muenz
Lawrence (Larry) Muenz is an experienced business attorney providing legal counsel and transactional expertise to publicly traded and private corporations. Larry provides legal representation in the areas of contracts, securities and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate governance. He is a skilled negotiator and business advisor with strong financial business background. Larry is a dynamic team player, with excellent organizational, interpersonal, leadership and managerial skills.
He specializes in due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic alliances, securities law, employment and labor law, as well as real estate lease review. His expertise includes the negotiation of real estate leases and commercial contracts and loans and complex debt instruments, which include secured asset based borrowing and alternative financing arrangements. He has also successfully enabled his clients to overcome regulatory hurdles and seize opportunities to promote growth.
Larry is currently a partner in his own firm serving as outside, in-house legal and business counsel, for several small and mid-sized public and private companies. He has served on various corporate boards, including non-profit organizations and residential condominiums. Previously, Larry held a senior management position with an American Stock Exchange listed company. He served as Vice President Administration, Secretary and General Counsel to Air Express International. In this role he was the Chief Legal and Administrative Officer for this multi-national freight transportation company, in addition to holding direct reporting responsibility for human resources, claims and insurance.
Prior to this role he served as International Trade counsel for Xerox Corporation where he advised domestic subsidiaries on U.S. Export Licensing requirements and foreign subsidiaries on U.S. Customs Regulations. He also represented the company on several trade association committees. Early in his career he owned several furniture boutiques and was responsible for all operations of these businesses.
Larry’s education includes an undergraduate BA degree from American University, Washington, DC, a MBA in finance from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI and a law degree from Fordham University School of Law.
Larry and his wife Judy, enjoy travel, theatre, wine tasting, skiing and running. They are both from Long Island, New York and currently reside in New York City and Washington, DC. He has two grown children, a daughter in NYC and a son in Washington, DC.
Judith Meritz
Judith (Judy) Meritz is a seasoned regulatory counsel to senior management and senior executives in the medical device industry. Judy specializes in strategic planning and compliance remediation concerning Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other international regulatory authority matters, including due diligence for acquisitions, governmental enforcement resolution, product approval strategies and global marketing and advertising program compliance.
Judy has successfully enabled medical device and imaging companies to overcome obstacles in the regulatory and enforcement space in global arenas to facilitate product launches, evaluate potential acquisitions and lead the resolution of enforcement and compliance issues. Most recently, she served as in-house regulatory and FDA counsel to Medtronic, the largest medical device manufacturer in the world. Previously, in addition to serving as chief regulatory counsel to all Covidien business divisions, she served as the public policy face of Covidien to the FDA and AdvaMed, the largest medical device trade association.
Formerly, she was a shareholder at Baker Donelson, Berman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC and a partner at Blank Rome LLP in Washington, DC. Prior to this role, she served as Assistant General Counsel for the American Red Cross. Earlier in her career she held senior roles as Vice President, Regulatory Affairs at E-Z-EM, Inc., a manufacturer of drugs, devices and diagnostics, and Director of Regulatory Affairs for Henry Schein, Inc., a worldwide device distributor and private labeler, during the company’s rise from a $400 million company to revenues of $4 billion. She began her legal career as an Assistant Regional Counsel for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region II.
Judy is currently a partner in Meritz & Muenz, LLP, as well as a senior strategic advisor to YourEncore, a consulting and educational organization developing and providing expertise in the medical device and life sciences field. She is a recognized speaker at medical device conferences and at the FDA College at FDA headquarters. She is a member of the Advisory Board of Bloomberg BNA Medical Devices Law and Industry Report and a founding member of the AdvaMed Womens Executive Network. Previously she led the American University School of Public Affairs Alumni Board.
